Teen Spotlight
Troop #943
Louisa,
Kentucky
We
have 15 girls in 6th and 7th grade. Ages ranging from 11-13. We have
been a very active troop and over half of our girls attended summer camp last
year (several going to 2 different sessions). This group is a great group
of campers! We try to go several times a year and we started off this year
with a weekend at Judy Layne. We go for the more traditional style
camping....no cokes, hotdogs...etc. we use our camp equipment that we
earned in the cookie sale and do all the cooking ourselves. Dutch oven,
foil dinners and pancakes are some of our favorites!!! We love hiking the
trails at Judy Layne and the Caves at Carter Caves. We strive to be
stewards of the land and promote environmental causes. All of our trips up
to this fall had been paid for by the money we made from recycling cans and
paper. (this includes, badges, books, sashes and vests!) Last spring
we had an Earth Week booth to promote awareness of the problems we have here in
Eastern Kentucky.....the main one being there is NO recycling in our county!!!
This is our first year as
Cadettes and we have 3 girls that have applied for Destinations. We hope
that they will be chosen for these events not only for them, but to show that
older girls have so many opportunities. We are the oldest troop in our
county so we try to inspire younger girls to stay in Girl Scouts.
We are a large troop with
a lot of neat girls!!! All with their own ideas and hobbies so we try and
take everyone in consideration when we plan trips and projects. We look
forward to a great time as Cadettes and then on to Seniors.
