Parents - FAQ |
| How can my daughter
become a Girl Scout? |
Registering is easy. You can find
a troop and your leader can help you. |
| How can I find a troop
for my daughter? |
The easiest way is to contact us at the
Council Service Center. Our number is 1-800-475-2621 and we can tell
you, based on where you live, who to contact to find the perfect fit for
your daughter. There are troops at most schools in the Council, as
well as churches, community centers and more! Basically, wherever you
can find girls, you can find Girl Scouts. |
| How much does it cost
to be a Girl Scout? |
It costs $10 to register for a year of
Girl Scouting. All other costs are up to the troop and what they would
like to do. Remember, financial aid is always available and our
wonderful Fall Product Sale and famous Girl Scout Cookie Sale help the troop
to defray costs, as well as providing the girls with valuable Cookie Dough
that can be used in the Council shops or for Council programs. |
| How old does my
daughter have to be to be a Girl Scout? |
Girl Scouts serves girls 5-17 years of
age, through distinctive, age-appropriate programming. Kindergartners
will have fun and learn about themselves and the world around them in
Daisies. Girls 6-8 or in 1st-3rd grades will develop valuable skills
in Brownies. Girls 9-11 or in 4th-6th grades will have a great time
exploring possibilities in Juniors. And there are lots of programs for
girls 11-17 to help them find a niche in Girl Scouting that can lead to
world travel, amazing community service projects and even scholarships! |
| What kind of programs
and activities are offered in Girl Scouting? |
There is so much to do in Girl
Scouting! Lots of people think of things like crafts, cookies, and
camp. And we do those things, but we also do things like aerospace
science, sports, community service and diversity education. We are
also specialists in caving, adventure programming and travel. You name
it, we cover it in some way through the Girl Scout program. Check out
our TAP online to find out
about exciting, upcoming programs. Also, talk to your troop leader
about what you would like to see your daughter learn and what she's
interested in. And if you can't find a program that fits your needs,
contact us and we will do our best to help. |
| What do girls get out
of Girl Scouting? |
Anything they want! Girl Scout
programming is created based on the 40 Developmental Assets. The
Search Institute identified these assets as traits and skills that
successful children develop. That means that we are doing our best to
not only make sure your daughter has a wonderful time in her Girl Scout
activities, but that she is also learning a lot and hopefully becoming a
better member of society. The Girl Scout Promise and the Girl Scout
Law leads our every move and we hope that girls develop everything they need
to be happy, healthy leaders in their communities. |
| What makes Wilderness
Road Council so special? |
Girl Scouts-Wilderness Road Council
serves 25,000 girls in Central and Eastern Kentucky, Lawrence Co. Ohio, and
Claiborne Co. Tennessee. We pride ourselves on our award winning
programming and our belief that every girl who wants to be a Girl Scout
should get to be a Girl Scout. Check out our
Get to Know Us page for more details
on how we reach our goals. |
| Is Girl Scouting really
safe? |
In a word, absolutely! Every
activity a girl participates in through Girl Scouting is based on strict
safety requirements. We do our best to insure that every girl is
participating in the safest activity possible. We also require all of
our volunteers to fill out criminal record checks and complete the
appropriate trainings. All troops should also have someone who is
trained for camping and someone who is trained in First Aid and CPR.

| What if I hear
something that I don't like about Girl Scouting? |
Please contact us immediately if you
ever hear or read something that makes you uncomfortable. We are here
to help with those issues. Lots of time, information crops up on the
internet that simply isn't true. Other times, events or programs are
misinterpreted by well-meaning individuals. If you contact us, we can
tell you exactly what we're doing and you can make up your own mind.
Please call us at 800-475-2621 with any issues. |
| Who do I contact if I
have a problem? |
Your troop leader is always a good
liaison with the Council. If you want to speak with someone at the
Council, though, we'd love to hear from you. Every area is assigned a
membership specialist that can help you with a myriad of problems, or you
can contact another member of our staff. Check out our
staff list, complete with email
addresses and phone numbers. If you don't know who you need to talk
to, please just call us at 800-475-2621 and we will do our best to help. |

volunteers. Check out our volunteer page

out how to help us financially to insure
that the wonderful programs we do continue! Contact us for more

| Should I volunteer to
help my troop? |
Yes! Some girls never have the
opportunity to join Girl Scouts because there are not enough adult
volunteers to help. Training and support are provided for all
volunteer positions. Look at our
